Expiry Date

An expiry date is the date after which an item, document, license or subscription is no longer valid, safe to use, or in effect - after it passes, the thing it's attached to typically needs to be renewed, replaced or discarded.

Expiry dates appear across very different domains - food safety, document validity, software licenses, insurance policies - but the underlying concept is the same: a fixed point after which the item is no longer trustworthy or usable as-is.

FAQ

Is an expiry date the same as a renewal date?
Not quite - an expiry date is when something stops being valid; a renewal date is when you'd act to extend it, which is often earlier than the expiry date itself.
