A common hesitation before setting up a shared family workspace: does joining one mean everyone can suddenly see everything you track? No - Expiry Manager's model is private by default, shared by choice, and it's worth understanding exactly how that works before you invite anyone in.
The default: private to you
Every item you add starts visible only to you, whether or not you're in a shared workspace. Being part of a household group doesn't automatically expose your items to other members - visibility is a decision made per item, not a side effect of membership.
What sharing actually does
When you assign an item to another person, or explicitly share it into the household view, that item becomes visible to the people it's shared with - nothing more. You can share a car's insurance with your partner while keeping a personal medical document entirely private, in the same account, at the same time.
A reasonable default to work from
- Shared: joint assets - shared cars, home insurance, kids' documents, household subscriptions
- Private: anything personal - individual medical records, personal accounts, anything you'd rather manage alone
Joining a shared workspace is an opt-in for visibility, not an opt-out of privacy.
